It was very windy at 9AM, but as soon as we started at 10AM it dropped off a little and turned into a fabulous day. It was windy and difficult, but not too windy that the lift got chopped up too much and there weren't too many land outs. It was challenging, tricky, tough, but very enjoyable. There was even some massive lift and big sink (see some of the scores!!) around in the middle of the day to make it interesting.
Unfortunately we lost Theo due to a re-occuring knee injury. We hope you are feeling better Theo and can make it back again in the future.
We also lost Bernie and Brett due to some minor model damage half way through the day, but the rest of us made it through.
Jim Houdalakis and Dave Milward had some great flights and they both took 1000 point rounds at different times throughout the day. Well flown in the tricky conditions guy's.
Jon Day finished 3rd with his new Vortex 2. This model is showing real promise in the windy conditions and Jon is slowly getting his head around it.
Jamie Cannon finished 2nd and is really improving every time I see him fly. He was thermalling on top of the pack for a lot of the day and had some great flights.
Marcus won the day and had the best grip on the tricky conditions by managing to stay out of the sink more often than everyone else.
A huge thanks to Jamie's wife Louise for timing and scoring and to Jamie, Louise and Louise's father Richard for driving all the way from Sydney. THANK YOU! we all really appreciate the effort you make to attend.
It was also a pleasure to also meet Greg England from Hobart who flew over to take a look at what we do. He will be back again with a model once his Cycling injury has healed! Thanks for your help timing and I'm keen to see some of the video footage you took.
Also we will re-schedule the blown out Royal Park F3K event to be at Jon Day's place in Longwood on Sunday 18th Jan.
Don't forget the F3K Selection Trials/State Championships on 31st Jan/1st Feb at Diggers Rest. We might even get some keen Kiwi pilots make the trip over for the event..fingers crossed they can make it. If they do we will also run it as the Trans-Tasman Trophy!
Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year everyone!.
Cheers,
Marcus
