The League of Silent Flight (LSF) in Australia maintains up-to-date rules for thermal soaring competitions. The following is from their document and there is a link to it below.

The MAAA ratifies the competition rules once every four years. There is considerable effort required by LSF members to update the Australian Thermal Rules with the various decisions taken and in general accordance with the associated international rules closest to our class of competition.

Since the closest international rules are F3J then these rules are normally used as the base with modifications to incorporate the use of winches. The winch rules are based around the F3B winch rules with some relaxations and reduction in length of lines used.

At the LSF Annual General Meeting there is often decisions taken by the members to modify the rules for the following years competition at Jerilderie. These changes are recorded in the meeting and are adopted as local rules for the following year.

The LSF Committee has decided to maintain a draft set of Australian Thermal Rules, which are based on the current official rules as defined by the MAAA, and incorporating any changes approved by the LSF Annual General Meeting. In this manner when the rules are due for update, the LSF will be able submit the Draft Australian Open Thermal Rules for consideration by the MAAA, without further effort by any of the members.

The Draft Australian Open Thermal Rules
a) will be used by the LSF for the annual Jerilderie competition
b) may be used for any club competition
c) may be used for a state or national competition, subject to the approval of the controlling body, by adopting the changes indicated in the draft rules and specifying these changes as local rules.
