Around 25 pilots made the trip to Wentworth NSW for the two day thermal comp held on 25-26 October 2014. A few arrived in time to practice on the Friday and had a get together that night.
On the Saturday we had really good, but occassionally tough and challenging conditions and that always makes for a good thermal gliding competition. It was pretty hot and sunny but the wind strength was never a problem. But trying too hard was for some and resulted in outlandings at great distance for a few.
Interestingly, where the flight time was good, but the landing was zero, the hurt to the score was often not too damaging. Everbody enjoyed their lunch (included with the entry fee) with plenty of bread, meat and salads available and in the evening we went to the Wentworth Club. There was a lot of interest in the progressive scores and it was obvious that a lot of pilots had low scoring flights.
Sunday was another good day but even more challenging and we completed another three rounds (making a total of 10 rounds) before the threat of a downpour brought a halt to the flying. Another great lunch (barbeque this time) and then the presentations.
Overall a fantastic weekend made all the better thanks to the efforts of Garry Whitfield, Darrell Blow and their partners Jennifer and Michelle.
Congratulations to
1 Carl Strautins
2.David Hobby
3 Mike O'reilly
