F3B#2 Ballarat Comp Report,

thepilots

The RCGA held its 2nd F3B event of the year on Sunday at Ballarat and because of the extremely generous time given by the Ballarat club members to help run the course (THANK YOU) we completed 10 rounds of speed and 3 rounds of distance.

It was an awesome day weather wise with a light breeze to give a good launch but not too much to blow the thermals away too fast...and there were some awesome thermals, leading to some equally awesome speed and distance runs!

Here are the highlights…

  • It was great fun. 3 Pilots broke their PB’s, Marcus 4 times, David 4 times, Jim once and Gerry missed his PB by only 0.12 of a second. Seeing so many great times had everyone including the helpers joining in the fun!
  • Jim lowered his PB to 15.8 seconds by the end of the day and had another 3 runs in the 16 and 17 second bracket. Well done Jim!
  • Dave lowered his PB to 17.03, then 16.33, then 15.8 and then did a blistering run with his last flight of the day to hit 14.66 seconds! Awesome flying Dave and a great improvement throughout the day.
  • Gerry had two runs in the 14 second bracket (14.63 and 14.37) and were only just outside his PB of 14.25 seconds. More practice with that Freestyler Gerry and you will be into the 13's.
  • Marcus's PB was previously 15.00 seconds, but he improved it to 14.23, then 14.19, then 13.99 and finished it off with 13.54 seconds! These are amazing times! It is worth noting that 13.54 equals the previous Victorian record set by John Skinner last year and Marcus averaged 15.0 seconds over the entire day (10 rounds)!
  • The air was also awesome for Distance and there was some great runs with pilots doing many laps in speed mode, while they were still going up!
  • Gerry was the Distance ‘Meister’ and won all 3 of this distance runs. Well done Gerry!
  • Marcus had the most number of laps for the day with 28. A big thanks to Gerry for some great turn calling while Marcus had fun in speed mode. It was an awesome buzz!

Again, a big thanks to the Ballarat club for their great hospitality putting on a BBQ lunch and for helping us out with the course all day - the pilots really appreciate it!  Even though we had low numbers we were able to put on a great show for the locals and they enjoyed every minute of it.

 Congratulations to the winners:
